Career Overview
- Veris was taken in the second round of the 1985 NFL draft by the New England Patriots. During his rookie season, he recorded 14 sacks—including four in the playoffs. Garin started in Super Bowl XX – Patriots lost to Chicago Bears. He finished his career in 1992 with the San Francisco 49ers and later was named to the Patriots’ All-1980s team.
College Highlights
- After high school, Garin went on to Stanford University where he was inducted into the Stanford University Athletics Hall of Fame. He began his career at TE, then moved to linebacker; worked at both DE and OLB the last three years…improved his draft position by having outstanding Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine games; selected Defensive MVP in both all-star games…played with both broken thumb and sprained ankle as a senior…was 8th top tackler on the team as a senior, as teams ran away from him – led team in behind line tackles with 11, in sacks with five…named honorable mention AP All-America and UPI second team All-America and 1st team All-PAC 10 in 1984…made 2nd team All-PAC 10 as junior, making 71 tackles (44 solos), with 12 tackles for loss (high on team) and team-high of seven sacks.
